Lamborghini’s new “baby” supercar, the Temerario, has arrived and it’s nothing short of impressive. Here’s a look at some standout features Lamborghini shared during its debut in Monterey.
In electric vehicle (EV) mode, the Temerario operates as a front-wheel drive car. It pairs an 800-hp twin-turbo V-8 with three electric motors—one for each front wheel and one between the engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The electric motor at the back is linked directly to the crankshaft, meaning it always runs at engine speed. This setup means that when driving solely on electric power, the Temerario is front-wheel drive. The car has a 3.8-kWh battery, so don’t expect a long range before the V-8 engine kicks in.
The engine boosts up to 36 PSI. Lamborghini achieved 800 horsepower from a 4.0-liter V-8 by pushing the turbo boost to 36 PSI. The turbos are equipped with sensors and electronic wastegates for precise control, minimizing the risk of failure and ensuring the car performs smoothly even as the turbos spool up.
The hybrid system is similar to the Revuelto. Both the Temerario and the Revuelto share the same electric motors, battery pack, and transmission setup. However, the Revuelto has its rear motor mounted on top of the transmission and uses it for reverse movement, while the Temerario has a traditional reverse gear. The Revuelto also features a 6.5-liter V-12 engine.
The Temerario’s engine can handle up to 11,000 RPM. Despite its redline being set at 10,000 RPM, Lamborghini designed the engine with extra capacity to prevent issues. They use roller fingers instead of traditional tappets to ensure smooth operation at high speeds, a technique usually seen in racing engines.
For taller drivers, the Temerario is surprisingly accommodating. With its new chassis design, it can comfortably fit drivers up to 6 feet 6 inches tall, even with a helmet. However, if you’re taller than that, like LeBron James, you might find it a bit snug.
