900-HP Golf Rip the Quarter-Mile in 10 Seconds

This Mk2 Volkswagen Golf may appear modest, but it packs an incredibly powerful all-wheel drive system that rivals supercars.

Built by Kim Paetz, this Golf packs a 2.9-liter VR6 engine from a later model, boosted by a BorgWarner EFR 9180 turbocharger. The engine produces an impressive 898 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque, with power delivered through a five-speed sequential transmission and a modern 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

The VeeDubRacing YouTube channel captured video of Paetz’s car at the L8Night quarter-mile event at Lausitzring near Berlin. The footage shows the car in action with impressive four-wheel burnouts.

Paetz manages a commendable 10.07 seconds at 148.7 mph. While it doesn’t quite compete with today’s supercars like the Rimac Nevera or Porsche 911 Turbo S, it’s still impressive given the car’s blocky design and traction issues. With a better start, it could likely hit the 9-second mark.
